AgriSense: satellite crop and soil intelligence

Crop health, water stress and early warnings for every field, from Sentinel-2 imagery.

A satellite crop and soil intelligence platform, built by OREL Vision

AgriSense reads Sentinel-2 satellite imagery for each of your fields, turns it into crop health and soil indicators, watches for sudden changes, and tells your team where to scout and what to consider applying.

It runs as a secure web dashboard that works on a phone browser, with field-level history, alerts and recommendations kept in one database.

  • 10 m pixelsSentinel-2 bands processed at 10 m resolution for each field boundary.
  • 6 indicesNDVI, NDRE, NDMI, NDWI, SAVI and BSI, computed from raw bands.
  • 6 cropsWheat, maize, cotton, rice, sugarcane and potato have built-in agronomy rules.
  • Daily checksAutomatic refresh can run every 24 hours. New imagery arrives about every five days, cloud permitting.

See how the early-warning check works

This demo applies the same rule AgriSense uses on a real field: it compares the latest NDVI reading with the average of the previous three readings. A drop of more than 8 percent is a moderate warning, and more than 20 percent is severe.

What the satellite measures

Each index is a formula on Sentinel-2 bands. These are the exact calculations AgriSense runs.

Indices used by AgriSense
IndexFormula (Sentinel-2 bands)What it tells you
NDVI(B08 - B04) / (B08 + B04)Green biomass and crop vigour
NDRE(B08 - B05) / (B08 + B05)Chlorophyll in dense canopy, nitrogen status
NDMI(B08 - B11) / (B08 + B11)Moisture in the canopy, water stress
NDWI(B03 - B08) / (B03 + B08)Open water and waterlogging
SAVI((B08 - B04) / (B08 + B04 + 0.5)) x 1.5Vegetation with the soil background removed
BSI((B11 + B04) - (B08 + B02)) / ((B11 + B04) + (B08 + B02))Bare soil and fallow land

Cloud, cloud shadow and cirrus pixels are masked out using the Sentinel-2 scene classification layer before any number is reported.

Built-in knowledge for six crops

Each crop has an optimal soil pH range, a peak-greenness growth stage, and a list of the issues AgriSense will suggest when a field shows a sudden decline.

Capabilities

  • Crop health monitoring

Field-level NDVI, NDRE and NDMI history with trend charts and map layers.

  • Disease and pest early warning

Flags unexpected declines against the field's own recent trend, then lists the likely causes for that crop and season, with the spectral pattern to look for.

  • Soil fertility and pH estimates

Estimated pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and organic matter, recalibrated every time you enter a lab soil result.

  • Fertiliser and treatment guidance

Suggestions such as lime for acidic soil or gypsum for alkaline soil, and fungicide or pesticide classes, with a prompt to confirm in the field first.

  • Alerts and farm management

Farms, fields, users and logins with role control, plus alerts stored for every field.

  • Mobile access

A responsive dashboard that opens in any phone browser, with an Android wrapper app available.

What AgriSense does and does not claim

Satellites cannot photograph a leaf. We say plainly what the platform can and cannot tell you, so decisions stay sound.

It can

  • Show where and when a crop departs from its own normal pattern
  • Narrow the likely causes for a given crop, so scouts know what to look for
  • Track fields continuously and compare them across seasons

It does not

  • Measure soil chemistry directly. Soil values are estimates, improved by lab samples
  • Confirm a disease from imagery alone. Every alert asks for field confirmation before any chemical is applied

Works with our drone service

Satellite data covers whole districts every few days. When a field is flagged, an OREL Vision drone can fly it at centimetre detail, and the result can feed a variable-rate prescription. Together they give a full loop from early warning to targeted action.

Live remote sensing portal

The AgriSense live portal is being prepared. When it opens, this button will take you straight to your fields.
